Vintage Barrel of Monkeys

I found this set of wrought iron monkeys while thrifting. My kids love playing with them, but if they dropped the whole chain on those tender toes... oh my! No wonder they make them in plastic these days...

Craft Hope for Haiti

Wee Gallery has donated our alphabet posters to the relief effort in Haiti to this wonderful etsy shop, Craft Hope. I have been amazed by how much grassroots action has been happening. Suddenly it seems like you and I can actually make a difference by crafting, supporting craft shops, and things that in the past have seemed 'too small'. If you would like to get the word out on your own efforts to help Haiti, leave a comment on rikrak studio's post today, and she will tweet it.

Love gives us wings

Here's what I entered in the Valentine Card contest by Cool Mom Picks. It's to download and color in. Hope you like it!

The Star Catcher Machine

The biggest hit at my 5yr old's birthday party was THE STAR CATCHER MACHINE! We painted a huge box gold and decorated it. When the kiddies put a gold coin into it, a shooting star shot out! The motor: Her 7yr old brother, who had to be refueled periodically with chicken nuggets! The kids thought it was real magic, it was adorable. I made the stars out of sparkly white felt filled with lentils to weight the star down. The tail was made of sparkly fabric from Joann. They worked really well and the kids loved their stars.

Happy Birthday

My daughter shares a birthday with Dr Martin Luther King Jr. She turned five. Her present was of course, piggies. To be precise, a mama with four babies, who can nurse. When we were in India we saw a huge mama piggy who would sit in her trough so that her babies couldn't get to her teats! I guess she really needed a break!! Anya has never forgotten that, so I thought it would be funny to re-create that for her... The mama pig was made from a Japanese pattern book, and the rest of it was winged.

And this is awesome, you can text a $10 contribution to American Red Cross directly from your phone! Just text "HAITI" to 90999 and $10 will be donated to American Red Cross relief efforts for Haiti. The amount will be added to your cell phone credit card bill.

The Snow Checklist

She has always wanted to see snow. But her ideas of fun to be had in snow came from stories she had heard and pictures she has seen. She was armed with a checklist as we headed north for the holidays. It went like this:

1. Throw snowballs.
2. Make a snow angel.
3. Catch snowflakes on your tongue.
4. Make a snowman.
5. Go sledding.

We managed to check it all off, and her appreciation of this fact was heard at least twice a day when she'd suddenly shout "I LOVE CONNECTICUT!!!" "I LOVE SNOWWWWW!!"

It made everyone so happy. I love her buoyant spirit!
