Surprise!

I am in India for 2 weeks. My dad turned 70 yesterday and I decided I should crash his party. It was fun! I will also be looking into getting some things made. I hope to be back with some prototypes, so stay tuned. I will be back on the 9th of April. Don't forget to leave a comment on my previous post.

Wee Gallery Vintage

Many of you know my love for vintage, and have inquired about my finds. I'm planning to add a vintage section to the Wee Gallery Etsy Shop to share my finds. I'd love to know if you will be interested, and if so, any specific items for kids like toys, books, decor, clothes, supplies? Leave a comment on this post and I will draw one person to receive a vintage prize.

Pillowcase Skirt Tutorial

STEP 1: CUT YOUR PILLOWCASE
First measure the desired length of your skirt and add 2 inches to it for the elastic casing. Cut the first piece. Then cut another piece 4 inches in height for the bag handles. The piece left over will make the bag. Sometimes the pillowcase is too short to make all three pieces, in which case you can leave out the handles.

STEP 2: MAKE THE SKIRT
Fold over the unfinished edge to make casing, sew, insert elastic, and voila, it's ready!

STEP 3: MAKE THE BAG
First make the handles by folding the handle pieces into fourths and sew closed. Sew on to bag.

Pillowcase Skirt Tutorial

In response to the emails received about the Pillowcase Skirt on Bloesem Kids today, I will put up a little tutorial for you soon. Thanks for your patience!

Second Language

My daughter was watching Ni-hao Kai Lan, an episode in which Kai Lan teaches them how to write a Chinese character. After the show had finished, Anya brought out her Hindi worksheets and started to write. It was interesting for me, because my first language is actually English even though I grew up in India. I can read and write Hindi because we learned it in school, but am not a fluent speaker. I brought some of these worksheets back with me just to familiarize the kids with the alphabet, but don't really push it too much. Anya associated Kai Lan's Chinese with her Hindi, and felt the need to write. She had no hesitation writing in a different script at all. Kids are so amazing!

Inspiring

I am always curious to see how our wee products are used when they go out into the world. While browsing Flickr I caught sight of this amazing room which uses our Alphabet Poster purchased from Craft Hope for Haiti. I love the calming colour palette used in this nursery, with the natural wood elements and brilliant personalization details like family pictures and ultrasounds on wooden clothespins. Take a look at more pictures of this incredible nursery on Flickr.

I was browsing Flickr today and saw some really cute kids rooms using wee gallery, so I thought it would be fun to start a Flickr Pool. If your kids rooms use wee gallery, we'd love to see! Join in and post your pictures. I'll go first with my son's room.
